| 14 June 1873 | Hunkpapa attacked Major Townsend 1873 - Northern Pacific Railway Expedition 1873 - Major Townsend's column had only left Fort Abraham Lincoln about an hour ago when it was attacked by about 100 Hunkpapa warriors. Only when two companies of infantry, Indian scouts and several dozen civilians from Fort Abraham Lincoln rushed to their aid did the Hunkpapa warriors end their attack.
