| 1822 | James Kipp established the small trading post Fort Tilton on the Missouri River, about 3 miles northwest of Fort Clark, for the Columbia Fur Company. The small trading post was managed by J.P. Tilton and manned by 5 men. Because of the threat from the Arikara Indians, the fort was better fortified from May to November 1823.
